Sehri and Iftar Distributed Among The Underprivileged – Ramadan 2021 – Mojar School
Ramadan for us is just a few hours of hunger, but for millions of people – hunger is a daily fact. Those who are less fortunate than we are. Our Ramadan fasting will be eased by the nutritious Iftar and Sehri we can manage daily; once Ramadan is over, we will no longer be going hungry daily. However, the underprivileged families are unable to afford the nutritious food they need to sustain themselves after a hard day of fasting. Most of their families depend on the daily earnings for food and other supplies; when there is less or no earning they can’t even manage one meal a day.
The devastating pandemic
The Covid-19 pandemic has left the underprivileged people who were already struggling in poverty-stricken lives in a worse stage possible. It weakened the economic situation of millions of people in rural areas. Many of them lost their earning sources, jobs, and homes, which left them on the streets suffering in their empty stomachs.
Mojar School ensuring Sehri and Iftar for the underprivileged
Despite these challenging situations, Mojar School has been delivering free nutritious food to thousands of people during this holy month of Ramadan. We are distributing Iftar to approximately 200 underprivileged people every day. Also, food (for Sehri) packages to the underprivileged families of Mojar School: Permanent School’s students’ (Dhaka and Monpura) families; those who can’t afford to manage proper nutritious food for their Sehri; start their fasting period just by drinking a glass of water or water fermented rice. Their financial condition reported to us by the teachers of Permanent Schools; which they found out while visiting the students or while taking their online classes.
On the first day of Ramadan, we could only distribute food (Sehri) packages to 20 families; later on, we have distributed food packages to 84 Mojar School’s students’ families; including an elderly person who requested us because it was very tough for him to fast without consuming proper food for Sheri. In Monpura, 200 students’ families received food packages for theirs Sehri.
Every food (Sehri) packages contain (one month’s food rations for a family of 4):
